Drone racing championship concludes in Moscow
(MENAFN) The Mayor’s Cup drone racing championship concluded on Sunday at Moscow’s Skolkovo Innovation Center, featuring teams from 11 countries competing over two days. Participants included pilots from India, Australia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Kazakhstan, France, Belarus, Germany, Spain, and South Korea. The event was part of the ‘Unmanned Systems: Technologies of the Future’ forum, which also hosted expert talks, exhibitions, and workshops from 30 countries.
Ilya Galaev, president of the Russian Drone Racing Federation, hailed the championship as the premier global event in drone racing, predicting the sport could become a top-tier international competition within 50 years. Pilots navigated complex obstacle courses using first-person-view goggles, maneuvering through gates, sharp turns, and vertical elements designed to test precision and control.
Russia’s Belgorod team claimed first place, followed by a Moscow team in second and the Leningrad region in third. Competitors praised the high level of skill and collaboration, with international pilots noting the support from Russian racers in adapting to the competition format.
